Photographer Denis Estève’s view on the daily gestures of artisans
Since the late nineteenth century, the city of Revel has specialized in the manufacture of copies of furniture from Style and the realization of marquetry.
In 1980, nearly 1,200 artists are working in the manufacture of furniture, all trades combined.
Denis Estève testifies to this, through a series of photographs. He delivers images of the life of the workshops to an almost current era.
This work of memory and conservation, draws a mainly masculine universe. Today a mix has been invited to the heart of
these practices, workshops and wood crafts.
Scissors, sculptors, cabinetmakers, lakers and marquers are gathered here for a demonstration of the steps of furniture design.
These gestures and techniques, captured and exhibited in this way, allow us to understand what is always the character of excellence of the «city of art furniture».
Several graphic documents from the museum archives are also presented.
This exhibition was realized by Bianca Michaux during his Master II work "intangible heritage" in 2018 at the Museum.
