February 8 – August 29, 2020

The 2020 season begins with an exhibition paying tribute to a great painter living in the Occitanie region, Michel Carrade.

Michel Carrade belongs to the so-called École de Paris group, which was initially part of the Abstraction Lyrique movement. His work underwent a profound reworking in 1969 which directed him towards a work on light from the only colour taken closest to his physical qualities as a support for his research. He then abandoned the concepts of lyrical abstraction and turned to pure forms of painting that capture the energy of light.

In 1989, he moved with his wife to their house in the southwest of France. The following years will be those of intense solitary work (drawings, gouaches, engravings, stencils, watercolours, paintings) on his hill in the Tarn countryside. In 2000, he exhibited in New York. In 2014, he exhibited at the Venice Biennale of Architecture, in the space dedicated to the work of Claude Parent. More recently, in 2018, the Abattoirs de Toulouse paid tribute to his work in a collective exhibition entitled: L'art de la Couleur.
